SOMETHING OUR KIDS / GRAND KIDS–ALL NEED TO UNDERSTAND!!

Tuesday, September 27th, 2011

From ~ Bill Gates ~ This should be posted in every school or kid’s bedroom. Love him or hate him , he sure hits the nail on the head with this! Bill Gates recently gave a speech at a High School about eleven (11) things they did not and will not learn in school. He talks about how feel-good, politically correct teachings created a generation of kids with no concept of reality and how this concept set them up for failure in the real world. Rule 1 : Life is not fair - get used to it! Rule 2 : The world doesn’t care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself. Rule 3 : You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school. You won’t be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both. Rule 4 : If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss Rule 5 : Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your Grandparents had a different word for burger flipping: They called it opportunity. Rule 6 : If you mess up, it’s not your parents’ fault, so don’t whine about your mistakes, learn from them. Rule 7 : Before you were born, your parents weren’t as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you were: So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent’s generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.. Rule 8 : Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades and they’ll give you as MANY TIMESas you want to get the right answer. *This doesn’t bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life. Rule 9 : Life is not divided into semesters. You don’t get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF. *Do that on your own time. Rule 10 : Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs. Rule 11 : Be nice to nerds. Chances are you’ll end up working for one.. If you can read this… Thank a Teacher. If you can read this in English… Thank a Soldier! And for life and everything else you have… Thank God!! Now…. think about this and smile if you agree and please pass this on… If you don’t agree, go stick your head in the sand and take a deep breath! In God We Trust

What is a Turning Point?

Thursday, September 8th, 2011

Many of us experience many turning points in our lives. Some move us forward, some take us back and some may make us feel stuck.

We are all born innocent and through our life experiences, our own personalities, likes, dislikes, fears and confidences are built. Unfortunately, some these experiences are not predictable and leave us feeling overwhelmed, scared, or grateful. It is up to us and those around us to choose what our next course action will be. Many times these are conscious decisions but many times they are not. Our plan of action may also be determined by what we have been exposed to up until that moment. Our family, friends, employers and colleagues course of action may also be determined by what they have been exposed to up until that moment.

We are sometimes led down a good path and sometimes we are not. It is when we hit this proverbial fork in the road that we reach our turning point. We can choose the path of least resistance or the path that challenges us and leads us to our hopes and dreams. Building a legacy involves many turning points.

There may be some that we are proud of and some that cause us shame and sadness; however it is still our path. If we are fortunate enough, we will learn from our mistakes. If we need further lessons, we will continue our journey, learning along the way.

The reality is that life is challenging. It will be consistently challenging. Once we accept this, we see these challenges as opportunities for growth. Every fork in the road is an opportunity for a positive turning point. We cannot change what has happened but we can change our habits and attitudes to create positive synergy moving forward.

In every situation, we learn something. The awareness we have can be utilized to make good decisions and great turns. We can choose to make the turn and we can anticipate good outcomes.

So as you see, there are many turning points. Some we control and some we do not. Let’s take control of what we can in this challenging, yet rewarding life. Be Proactive!

Determine what will be your Turning Point? Why wait….. Make the turn!
