Turning Point helps launch Oh Canada! Ribfest

What a thrill!
The sight of thousands of people flooding into Waterdown’s Memorial Park for my Rotary Club’s inaugural Oh Canada! Ribfest over the Canada Day weekend made the hours spent planning and organizing seem more than worthwhile.
It was quite an experience working with my fellow Rotarians to make this idea for an event into a reality in such a short period of time – we didn’t even decide to go ahead with it until about four months ago.
The volunteer efforts of so many people produced an event that not only raised money for the important work of the local and global charities our Rotary clubs support, but rallied the entire community to celebrate the fact we are Canadians and live in the greatest country in the world.
I see that same spirit in the men who commit to improving their lives each day when they embark upon the path of recovering from the destructive behaviour of substance abuse. And like those involved in organizing our RibFest, the time, effort and commitment is nothing compared to the outcome!
I want to thank everyone who was involved in making our inaugural Ribfest such a resounding success and invite each of you to come out to next year’s event. For details, please visit http://www.ohcanadaribfest.com
Thanks especially to all of the sponsors who took a leap of faith with us in launching this new event: Metroland Newspapers, Corus Radio, Better Bitters, Market Mechanics, Allegra Hamilton, Long and McQuaid and Galer Farm Equipment.
